Yoshikien Garden in Nara
One thing about this trip was that I didn't have data roaming nor have I rented a pocket WiFi. The free Japan WiFi app was not yet available at the time too. Pretty insane for someone traveling solo, right? AND, it was my first time in Japan too! But that was me being a total loony. 😅 So I made my way around using traditional method i.e. the use of a paper map. I am a person with no sense of direction but I'm not sure whether the maps in Japan were just well made or that my inner map reading capability have been activated due to the sheer need for survival, but whatever it was, I never really had any major problem finding my way around. Now, there isn't a lot of English signs in Nara and the gardens were a bit hidden away from the main road. Good thing there were some guys in blue overalls working by the side of the road though. I showed them a photo of the garden I have saved in my phone and they pointed me to its general direction. This was pretty much how it worked me, showing people photos so they can just point me to wherever it was I was trying to get to. No need to exchange words whatsoever. 😆
